Faced with a difficult choice, the Montclar municipal council assumes the decision not to open the swimming pool during the summer of 2024.The swimming pool is over 52 years old, it has largely fulfilled its functions until now but, for three years, it is still difficult at the time of opening to restore it“, explains the mayor, Béatrice Savornin.

Indeed, major work could be envisaged but, in the current environmental context, it is impossible to obtain the financing to rebuild a similar swimming pool. “We considered undertaking some small patching work, but which would amount to more than 50,000to be able to reopen without solving the big problems of leaks, filters, etc.“, she adds.

Shuttles to the lake beach

Operating costs are also significant, particularly due to the cost of energy. Furthermore, the current maintenance expenses of the swimming pool, compared to the revenue generated over the two months of summer, have led elected officials to think seriously about the future of this infrastructure to which they are very attached.

“Faced with these multiple constraints, we decided to close the swimming pool while waiting to be able to invest in new infrastructure more in line with water and energy saving such as water games“, continues the mayor, not without reminding that, to compensate for a year without a swimming pool, the municipality will continue to provide free shuttles in collaboration with the Ubaye valley and the SCAL (Société des coaches Alpes-Littoral) to go to Lake Serre-Ponçon where the beach has been completely redeveloped by Smadesep (Serre-Ponçon Lake Development Union), in conjunction with the municipality of Ubaye-Serre-Ponçon.

The Seyne swimming pool will be reopened on July 1st

Montclarins and vacationers will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Kids Park on the Chau plateau with big air, tubbing, ventrigliss, jump, slide and solarium around the artificial lake. In addition, the new swimming pool in Seyne-les-Alpes will reopen on July 1, 2024 and the Bains des Bois are open in Montclar.

In the meantime, we are working on the redevelopment of the site front and future activities“, specifies the first magistrate, before adding that other well-being spaces could also see the light of day.”For now, we must make do with the means at our disposal. I hear your dissatisfaction, but know that an opening under current conditions was inconceivable and making significant expenses for two additional years would be a management error.“, concludes Béatrice Savornin.
