In fact, a decree adopted in March 2023 provides for compensation of $42,400 for this newly created position.

Please note that this is not a full-time position. Board members provide management oversight and participate in meetings to determine major directions.

But when adopting the appointment of the very first president, last Wednesday, the council of ministers quadrupled her remuneration.

On Friday, the office of the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, did not wish to explain the reasons behind this modification, instead directing the questions towards senior jobs.

“Pursuant to her appointment decree of May 22, 2024, and the modifications that were made on May 22, 2024 to decree 221-2023, Ms. Christiane Germain receives annual compensation of $173,000 to exercise the function of independent member and president of the board of directors of Santé Québec”, confirms the senior positions, as first reported by The sun.

Mme Germain is not the only senior executive to see her compensation explode. Last year, THE Newspaper reported that the new president of the board of directors of Hydro-Québec, Manon Brouillette, earns $75,000 more than her predecessor, an increase of 63%.

A car for Biron

Furthermore, the decree for the appointment of the president and CEO of Santé Québec reveals that Geneviève Biron will be able to count on a car provided by Quebec, in addition to her generous emoluments.

“Santé Québec provides Ms. Biron for her personal and professional use with an automobile of a brand and category suitable for her position,” states the decree, without further details.

The new agency “assumes the registration and insurance costs as well as the operating and maintenance expenses of this automobile,” we can read.

Mme Biron will also benefit from a monthly allowance of $1,573 for his living expenses in Quebec “for the duration of his mandate or until his move.”

This is in addition to his salary of $652,050 for the first two years. Officially, his annual compensation amounts to $567,000, but a bonus of 15% is granted to him for the first two years of his three-year mandate.
