What happened to the ZAD Notre-Dame-des-Landes?

Sunday May 26 Doors Wide Open on the ZAD of Notre Dame des Landes

Sunday May 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., around twenty groups will welcome you to show you the place and present their activities to you, in the bocage saved from concrete. On the program depending on the location: visit to gardens/farms or artisan workshops, walks, discussions, tastings, blacksmithing and animal traction demonstrations, cinema, felting workshop, etc.

In Notre-Dame-des-Landes, the bocage is still intensely inhabited.

Since the airport was abandoned in 2018, the inhabitants of the zad continue to live and fight to open other paths that were passable at the time. In this unique territory which continues to inspire well beyond its borders, forms of self-management and direct democracy are being built over time.

Numerous agricultural, artisanal, cultural and activist activities have taken root, linked to around forty restored or self-built places and collective habitats. Hundreds of hectares of land, meadows, hedges and forests are today cultivated or maintained collectively and in a framework where care for living things and autonomy from agro-industry take precedence over commercial criteria.

However, the intermingling of uses, commons and the singular solidarity that is practiced here is still difficult to recognize. The mayors of Vigneux-de-Bretagne and Notre-dame-des-Landes have unfortunately recently planned new threats to some of the habitats of the zad and are still obstructing some of the regularization processes of the places.

Returning to explore the zad today also means understanding the way in which it continues to extend beyond its perimeter. Links with local, national and international movements against the artificialization and land grabbing, like the land uprisings, continue to be established there.

An open house reception with maps and programs will be held at the Ambazada. Parking along the Chemin des Fosses Noires.

The day before in Redon, there will be a preview screening of the film Direct Action, awarded in Berlin and at the Cinéma du Réel festival. A documentary in the form of paintings on life today in the zad of Notre-Dame-des-landes. It’s at 2 p.m. on May 25 at the Manivel Cinema in Redon.
