The event, organized by the France 30 mayors’ association, will take place on June 13 at the Nîmes exhibition center.

Two years before the next municipal elections, how are our mayors of Gard doing? Not so bad, if we listen to the proactive president of the association of mayors of France Philippe Ribot (mayor of Saint-Privat-des-Vieux) “I’m fed up with the disaster. The elected officials are motivated, otherwise, they would stop .” However, a certain number of subjects concern them and they will be on the menu of the 8th fair of communes and intermunicipalities of Gard which will be held at the exhibition center on June 13 and whose menu was presented this Friday at Atria.

Among the concerns, the complexity of the requirements vis-à-vis elected officials. “I have been mayor for fifteen years and I have seen the mandates become more complex: climate and resilience law, forest fire CAP… There I have a meeting on the falling of blocks (stone, Editor’s note) We are in a society which seeks zero risk….”, estimates Philippe Ribot. With, as a result, the often questioned responsibility of elected officials. Hence a workshop, planned during this show, devoted to “the personal responsibility of elected officials and agents”.

Julien Plantier, deputy mayor of Nîmes, insisted on the very numerous attacks on elected officials and asked for more protection. “Parliament must take up these questions.” The association of mayors of France plans to most often take legal action in the event of an attack on an elected official brought to justice.

140 exhibitors

Many of the show’s focuses are on the environment. Thus, a workshop is devoted to financing energy works for communities via the Green Fund.

Another theme, that of sorting bio-waste at the Source, which must be implemented at the beginning of 2024… and for which there are delays here and there. “Collective composting is being implemented in successive waves, note the elected officials. It is done in stages, depending in particular on stocks.” Joël Roudil, mayor of Carnas,

140 exhibitors will be present at the show, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.: state services, security forces, public prosecutor’s offices, consular chambers, public service buyers, etc. The opportunity to exchange ideas between partners, but also to stick together and share experiences between elected officials. According to President Ribot, no less than 98% of the municipalities of Gard adhere to the AMF.
