GARD An Alesian actor climbs the steps in Cannes

Starring in the film “L’Amour ouf” by Gilles Lellouche, currently in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Malik Frikah plays the teenage version of the character of Clotaire, played by François Civil. Yesterday, the young actor from Alès had the honor of walking the prestigious red carpet for his first time. The start of a long series?

A real show. This Thursday, May 23, during the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the team of the film “L’Amour ouf” climbed the steps of the, could not be more famous, Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes. A cast made up of renowned actors such as François Civil, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Raphaël Quenard, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Alain Chabat and Benoit Poelvoorde, to name a few. Among the two main roles, those of François and Adèle were played in their youth by two extremely promising actors, Mallory Wanecque and Malik Frikah. Both play Jackie and Clotaire respectively, during their teenage years. For Malik, originally from Alès, this is his first “big” film after his experience in “Apaches” in 2023.

On the steps, his charisma emanates from his slightly open white shirt, revealing two buttons, matched with an impeccably fitted black suit. Her hair is carefully combed and her admiring gaze reveals her clear eyes. There is no doubt about it, in addition to his fabulous acting, he exudes an undeniable presence. However, the son of Jawad Frikah, well known in the Ales region for his involvement in the All’Style association as a dancer and manager, was initially destined for a completely different path.

From B-Boy to Clotaire

On the set of C to youMalik Frikah announced at the beginning of the week that he had “never been so happy in my life”. While his identity as an actor today seems inseparable from himself, there was a time when dance, and more particularly hip-hop, punctuated his passion. Endowed with considerable talent, Malik distinguished himself, as a teenager, among the world elite, both on the Battle stages in France and internationally. His career in dance was abruptly interrupted by the advent of the pandemic, but the young Alesian nevertheless gained a formative experience which forged his mind, his discipline and his artistic sense. Qualities that he decided to display brilliantly, and with character, on film sets, where he now seems to flourish perfectly.

After taking his first steps in the film “Apaches”, produced in 2022 and released a year later, in 2023, Malik Frikah was seen during previews with a new appearance, a shaved head. He was actually in the middle of filming, one which will undoubtedly mark a major turning point in his acting career “L’Amour ouf”. Indeed, with only one film under his belt and a break experience now over, he decided a few months ago to participate in the casting of an upcoming film he heard about, directed by Gilles Lellouche. A film which takes place in the 1980s, in the north of France and which tells the story of Jackie and Clotaire who grow up between high school and the port docks. She studies, he hangs out. Their destinies will cross and it’s mad love. “Life will try to separate them but nothing works, these two are like the two ventricles of the same heart…” can we read on the synopsis.

Attracted by the scenario, and having the feeling of perfectly matching the character of Clotaire, young, the Alésien, only 16 years old at the time, nourished by cinema since his childhood thanks to his father Jawad, decides to seize his chance. Malik, passionate about films that “explore the depths of human emotions”, did not hesitate to send a video for the casting. He progressed through each stage successfully, until being chosen to play this lead role. As if it were obvious. “My son is evolving, this is only the beginningrejoices Jawad Frikah. I’ve always been proud, because he went through so many challenges, especially during his dancing days, I’m not even surprised anymore. But for the seventh art, it’s on track to last given what it is capable of releasing and above all, what it is capable of doing.” Although trying to remain objective, his father cannot hide his pride at the blossoming of his son’s talents on the big screen, and the realization of his efforts.

In any case, the spectators are already won over. After a resounding applause following his appearance in the theater last night (watch at 4 minutes and 58 seconds by clicking here), many people congratulated him on his performance. Near Cannes this morning, after the screening of the film, Malek B., a spectator who attended yesterday the rise of the steps and the broadcast of the film, confided to Objective Gard : “Malik Frikah’s performance is goatesque (exceptional, Editor’s note). He risks becoming an essential face of French cinema in the years to come, that’s for sure. His acting is breathtaking, honestly. “ To be precise, let us remember that Malek B. does not know Malik in any way, despite the ironic proximity of their first names. Malik Frikah’s career is in any case full of promise. The film “L’Amour ouf” will be released in theaters on October 16. A little more patience then, to discover who could well be the future star of French cinema… Chauvins? Certainly not !
