Louis De Funès is in the spotlight This year in the Somme. After Molière in 2022 and La Callas in 2023, it is the most popular comic actor in French cinema who the Departmental Council pays tribute as part of its cultural season.

Free screenings in nine villages in the Somme

From May 24 until August 2, nine outdoor cinema sessions will also be an opportunity to see or rewatch (for free) some of his greatest films on the big screen, as part of the 110th anniversary of his birth.

9 dates, 9 villages, 9 classics

Open-air cinema, from May 24 to August 2, Fridays at 9:30 p.m. in public squares in nine municipalities (or in village halls in bad weather). Free. May 24: “La Folie des Grandeurs”, in Franvillers. May 31: “Cabbage soup”, in Cléry-sur-Somme. June 7: “The Adventures of Rabbi Jacob”, in Aigneville. June 14: “The Gendarme of Saint-Tropez”, in Vron. June 28: “La Grande Vadrouille”, in Hornoy-le-Bourg. July 5: “Le Grand Restaurant”, in Fienvillers. July 19: “La Zizanie”, in Curchy. July 26: “The Miser”, in Flers-sur-Noye. August 2: “The Wing or the Thigh”, in Millencourt.

After the retrospective devoted to him by the Cinémathèque de Paris last year, Louis De Funès is definitely more fashionable than ever.

He whom critics and part of the cinema have long despised, against the opinion of the public who reserved a triumph for each of his films, is now an almost unanimously hailed icon.

It must be said that the multiple rebroadcasts of his films remind us very regularly: throughout a very irregular career, Louis De Funès filmed a handful of classics which stand the test of time admirably well, the comic genius of the actor retaining all its strength.

Some of his best films

Good news: several of these timeless classics are part of the films on the program for this festival: The Saint-Tropez Gendarme (June 14 in Vron), The big mop (June 28 in Hornoy-le-Bourg) or the most forgotten but just as irresistible The Grand Restaurant (July 5 in Fienvillers).

With this open-air cinema festival, the Department confirms its desire to organize cultural events throughout the territory, and particularly in rural areas.
