a week in June to fight against the isolation of seniors

The latest report from the Little Brothers of the Poor announced that 530,000 people over the age of 60 were in a situation of social death in France. In Gironde, it is estimated that 40,000 elderly people are isolated.

Not to mention that in 2030, there will be more people over 65 than those under 15 (Source DRESS).

Under these conditions and taking into account the deleterious effects of this isolation on the mental and physical health of these veterans, as well as the situation of suffering and danger that it generates, the Gironde department has therefore decided to intensify ” its commitment to this issue of solidarity and public health and is keen to provoke a surge in Girondin citizens “.

Ahead of this week dedicated to seniors, Gironde calls on the inhabitants of the department so that they can tell about their actions put in place to help the elderly. This could involve going shopping, helping to complete administrative documents, sharing a coffee, simply getting news, etc.

These testimonies can be shared on the department’s social networks or by writing to [email protected]. A selection of several of them will give rise to a photo report which will be published on the community’s social networks.

Throughout this week dedicated to seniors, all those working on a daily basis with older people (associations, municipalities, municipal social action centers, establishments and services for the elderly, etc.), will join forces with the department to organize raising awareness about the isolation of seniorsto participate in their identification and offer activities.

In total, more than 100 actions will be deployed in the department.
