This is a turning point in transgender legal history: “For the first time in the canton of Vaud, justice officially admitted a change of sex», announces the newspaper “24 Heures” in its edition of May 22-23, 1974. 50 years ago, the Civil Court of Vevey agreed to modify the civil status of a 28-year-old man, José*, who had become a woman, Eliane*. This, following medical and psychiatric expertise, as well as the favorable notice of the cantonal public prosecutor.
