The Teragir association unveils its national rankings on May 23 “ Blue Flag 2024 ” For The beaches and marinas, recognized as an international label of sustainable tourism : “in France, this year, 505 sites obtained this label” announces the association which specifies that the Occitanie regions, South and New Aquitaine make up the Top 3 of this list.

43 sites: Hérault sees life in blue

“These three Mediterranean regions account for 246 locationswhich represents half of the total number of labeled beaches and ports in France, i.e. 49% of the 2024 blue flags”, adds Teragir, which confirms that Occitania rises to the top of the ranking with 107 beaches and 20 labeled ports (i.e. 127 blue winners), ahead of the South regions (91 beaches and 28 ports, i.e. 119 winners) and New Aquitaine (55 beaches and 2 ports, i.e. 58 winners).

Hérault, second French department

In this 2024 ranking, Hérault stands out: with 43 labeled beaches, the department ranks second on the national podium behind Var and its 48 blue beaches and ahead of the Pyrénées-Orientales with its 31 labeled beaches. Blue flags are not limited to the coastline. The label can also be awarded to developed beaches on lakes. This is the case in Hérault with the labels awarded by the beaches of Salagou Lake and those of Raviège lake.

Biodiversity: a national prize for Hérault

The Thomas Joly prize initiated by the Teragir association in 2020 rewards each year an exceptional initiative in the field of biodiversity protection. This year, this prize is awarded to the Intercommunal Atlas of Biodiversity, created at the initiative of the municipalities of Frontignan, Marseillan and Sète for their awareness-raising action around the Etang de Thau.
