Launched in 2022 at the initiative of the Children’s Municipal Council Cahorsthere citizen day was organized around a cleaning and waste collection operation. For the 2024 edition, scheduled for Saturday May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Place Mitterrand, members of the Extra-municipal long-term commission wanted to give a greater scale to the event, by linking in particular to thenational operation “May by bike”. Numerous initiatives carried out in the territory in terms of soft mobilityproduction ofrenewable energysolidarity, biodiversityofagriculture… will be presented to the public, who will be invited to imagine Cahors in 2050.

Transitions, soft mobility… in Cahors

Around twenty partners (associations, institutions, etc.) will participate in the day to demonstrate the actions carried out in favor of the ecological transition (transport, food, biodiversity, renaturation, energy, solidarity, etc.).

The day will launch at 9:30 a.m. with the departure by bike of 23 cycle tourists from Lot who will travel to Paris, as part of the “Together by bike” operation organized by the French Cycling Federation in this year of the Olympic Games. Those who wish are invited to accompany them for the first kilometer. The 23 cyclists from Lot will then reach the capital in eight stages (i.e. 700 km). A large gathering of several thousand cycle tourists is planned for Sunday June 2 at the Vélodrome Jacques Anquetil, in the heart of Paris.

A bicycle-cycling district

Two spaces will be set up on Place Mitterrand. The first, a bicycle-cycling district, will highlight soft mobility.

The Vélotonome is organizing a bicycle exchange. Sellers are invited to come and drop off their bikes in the morning (contact: [email protected]). Volunteers from the La Véloterie association will host a bicycle repair shop.

Many activities will be offered: pump track course (a bumpy and winding track to be covered by bike, rollerblader, scooter, etc.); tests of overboards, scooters, bicycles and other electric vehicles with Lot of Sports; “Roll in Cahors” route in the afternoon; introduction to cycling (with Prévention MAIF and the Grand Cahors Sports Service).

Grand Cahors will present the transport and mobility services that exist in the region. The Citiz system (car sharing) will be presented. Lot Road Safety will also have its stand.

A citizen village in Cahors

In the citizen village, around ten associations and transition stakeholders will invite participants to think, raise awareness, take action…

The different associations winning the call for citizen projects will present their actions in different areas. The team ofCaracol association will present the new farming model that it is developing, will host eco-construction workshops and a cooperative game on food production (at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.). There LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) will present participatory science kits and lead a “Nest boxes in the city” visit (departure on foot from the village at 2 p.m.). L’Cascaris association will present his “agora for the village-district” of Bégoux and will propose the game of strawberries and scents. Food Autonomy Cahors will raise awareness about food diversification, give plants and seeds and lead a discovery walk of edible plants at 3:30 p.m. (meet at the agora on Allées Fénelon). Stones of Hope will present its solidarity restaurant “Le Mesclun”.

Among the other stands, the Syded du Lot will raise awareness of the importance of properly sorting waste and composting (at 11 a.m., a “Learn to compost properly” workshop is planned at Square Jouvenel). The Carrefour des Sciences et des Arts will raise awareness on how to protect yourself from tiger mosquitoes and ticks. L’Fil D’Ohm associationwhich has just created its first citizen photovoltaic park in Cierac, will raise awareness of energy resilience.

On its stand, the Extramunicipal Long Time Commission will offer a space for free expression to imagine Cahors tomorrow (drawing, writing, etc.). Writing workshops on the theme “Which Cahors in 2050?” » are scheduled for 10:15 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Guided tours and walks

Throughout the day, several guided tours are planned.

The City of Cahors and Grand Cahors offer two visits: at 9:50 a.m., guided tour of the renovated courtyard of the Zacharie Lafage school, rue Victor Hugo; at 10:40 a.m., guided tour of the site of the old dairy (meet near the bridge of the ramparts).

Le Grand Cahors offers a visit to the Jean-Calvet school, rue Émile Zola, currently being renovated at 11:15 a.m.

The Department of Lot and the Extrapedestrians offer a two-hour hike on Mont Saint-Cyr (departure on foot from the village at 2 p.m.).
