A 19th conference for the MRC of Bellechasse

MUNICIPAL. More than fifty elected officials and general management of Bellechasse met on May 2 and 3 at the Manoir du Lac Delage for the 19e conference of the MRC of Bellechasse.

If asset management and the Bellechasse Cycloroute were the topics in the spotlight of the first day, the visit of the mayors of the municipalities of Courcelles – Saint-Évariste and Adstock was on the program of the second, they who had come share their experience of municipal regrouping.

The prefect of the MRC of Bellechasse, Luc Dion, appreciated the opportunity of the two presentations, while the sharing of resources is the subject of discussions in certain localities. “It is much more this angle than municipal mergers that was discussed. Listening to the two speakers, it confirms to me that we have reached this point. Keeping a municipal merger together is not easy and there will always be challenges. Grouping services is already happening and is likely to become more widespread. We see an evolution in the thinking of many,” he is convinced.

Mr. Dion also confirms that significant efforts will be made during the summer to rehabilitate certain portions of the Cycloroute, which was part of the discussions. “We need to re-establish a vision of the Cycloroute. We have reached a certain lifespan after 15 years and it shows. We evaluated what we wanted and we at least want to keep what we have and make improvements. With the Signature project, we will succeed in adding relaxation spaces, in particular. The condition of the roadway is catching up with us in certain places and we are going to invest a lot during the summer. »

The legal aspect of intermunicipal collaboration agreements and a workshop, led by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing on concerns surrounding the role of elected officials, completed the weekend’s agenda.

“Beyond the content of the conference, there is also the bringing together aspect that it causes to hold a similar event in a context different from that which we usually experience, especially in the context that we experience”, summarizes Luc Dion.

Let us remember that the MRC of Bellechasse organizes, every two years, a lake-à-l’shoulder to which mayors, municipal councilors and general management of the municipalities are invited. The event aims to allow participants to learn about various subjects and discuss the main issues experienced in the region.
