The Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation is granting the sum of $541,000 spread over three years to the Art Adapté program at La Place des Arts, which offers free introductory workshops in the performing arts to people living with special needs.

The announcement was made jointly with the Place des Arts Foundation, while this donation should have a significant impact on the deployment of this program.

Alain Bouchard is the founder and executive chairman of the board of Alimentation Couche-Tard inc., a multinational company headquartered in Laval.

For six years

The Art Adapté program has enabled more than 1,200 people living with functional limitations (psychological health disorders, physical, sensory or intellectual limitations) or a situation of social exclusion (newcomers and French students) to learn about the arts from the stage with an artist-mediator, since its creation 6 years ago.

Participants take part in a series of tailor-made workshops in singing, dance, music, theater or writing, and have the opportunity at the end of the project to offer a performance in front of an audience in the Georges-Émile-Lapalme cultural space. of the Place des Arts.

Necessity and recognition

“Culture is not a luxury, it is a necessity,” said Sandra Chartrand, president of the Sandra and Alain Bouchard Foundation, in a press release. The Foundation (…) has supported the program (…) since its beginnings, because we believe that art has the power to transform lives. Attending the performances and being able to observe the happiness and pride on the faces of the participants is a deeply moving experience.”

Remember that among her many involvements, Sandra Chartrand has already chaired the board of directors of the Laval Symphony Orchestra.

“Art is a powerful revealer of the potential that everyone has within themselves, and this exceptional gift will allow more people to discover their creativity, improve their self-confidence and develop a sense of belonging by weaving links with other participants” underlined Marie-Josée Desrochers, president and CEO of Place des Arts, in the same media communication.
