A atypical student appeared at the Martin Luther King college in Buc (Yvelines). “At 9 a.m. gate time, Friday May 17, 2024, the students alerted me: “Nathalie, there is a parrot”. It landed right on our gate. I then go and talk to the parrot, it flies and lands on my arm,” says Nathalie Belmont, a school life education assistant for two years.

An apple to lure him

This parrot, a beautiful gray from Gabon, seemed hungry. “We tried to put him in a large cage while we found his owners, but it was a failure, he flew towards our yard. Emilie, another education assistant on the team, attracts him by calling him and showing him the apple. Surely reassured, he then comes to rest on her arm again,” says Nathalie Belmont.

Martin Luther King College counts 680 students. Among them, the 6e and 3e were able to see this parrot.

“This event brought joy and wonder to their eyes. »

“This story will remain in our hearts”

But who could possibly belong to this parrot? The riddle was solved thanks to two 6 year old studentse : Louis and Ruben. And the college’s educational team worked hard.

“Before leaving to run their cross country, they told me that one of their friends from LFA (Editor’s note: Lycée Franco-Allemand, school adjoining Martin Luther King college) had the same parrot. So they gave me his name. Subsequently, we contacted the LFA school life team to obtain the contact details of the family concerned. »

This parrot was wanted for two days. While waiting for his owners to return, he waited quietly in the school life office.

“He finally found his family. We then learned that his name is Iago. We feel like we have done a good deed. This unusual story will remain in our hearts,” confides Nathalie.
