UFOA-A U20 Girls – Program of the day: Senegal challenges Guinea-Bissau, Gambia plays for survival

The UFOA-A U20 Girls 2024 tournament continues with the second day of group A. After a successful start, Senegal is preparing to play its second meeting this Wednesday at the Lat Dior stadium in Thiès. A victory would allow them to validate their ticket for the second round. In the other duel, Gambia will play for its survival.

At 4 p.m., Mali will face Gambia in a decisive match for both teams. Mali, which started the tournament with a draw (1-1) against Guinea-Bissau, is seeking its first victory to position itself favorably in the race for qualification. For its part, Gambia, beaten 2-0 by Senegal in its first match, is under pressure and must react to avoid compromising its chances from the start. A defeat would significantly complicate their path to the semi-finals.

Hosts Senegal started the tournament in impressive fashion with a 2-0 victory over Gambia. Mbayang Thiam’s girls, currently top of the Pool A table, will aim for a second consecutive victory when they meet Guinea-Bissau at 7 p.m. A victory would qualify them directly for the second round. Guinea-Bissau, after holding Mali to a draw (1-1), will try to create a surprise by facing the Senegalese on their own ground. A positive result for Guinea-Bissau would put them in a good position for qualification.

As a reminder, the first two teams from each group will advance to the second round and play the semi-finals. This tournament, a qualifier for the first edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) for women under 20, allows the finalists to compete for a place in this prestigious continental competition.

Current Group A standings

1. Senegal – 3 points (+2)
2. Mali – 1 point (0)
3. Guinea-Bissau – 1 point (0)
4. Gambia – 0 points (-2)
