father and son rewarded after saving family from drowning

A father and his son were recently decorated by the society for encouraging the good of Charente, reports Free Charente Monday May 20. They received a gold medal after saving their family from drowning on November 11. That evening, their vehicle fell into the La Tardoire River, which was in flood.

Inside were the father, his wife, his 83-year-old mother and his two children aged 14 and 16. After floating for a few minutes, the car quickly found itself submerged. “My wife had the idea of opening the window so we could go out. But I saw my daughter go into the current, carried away”the father then told our colleagues in a previous article.

“We came very close to tragedy”

Despite the situation, the father kept his cool and managed to get his daughter back. The mother and son managed to escape from the vehicle and returned to the bank. The teenager had thought about unbuckling his grandmother’s seat belt, who came out of the window but found herself hanging on the roof of the car for around twenty minutes.

In the end, the whole family escaped unscathed. “We came very close to tragedy”, recognized the father of the family a few days after the events. This is why the Society for the Encouragement of the Good of Charente wanted to reward the courage and determination of the father, but also of his son, who was quick to alert the emergency services.
