SENEGAL-FINANCE / Towards the deployment of 1,106 microfinance volunteers in the 14 regions – Senegalese press agency

Diamniadio, May 21 (APS) – The Minister of Microfinance and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Alioune Dione, announced, Tuesday, in Diamniadio (west), the deployment of 1,106 volunteers from the social and solidarity economy in the 14 regions of the country.

According to him, they will be intermediaries between microfinance institutions and their customers.

“Some efforts […] will be made in the area of ​​supervision of grassroots financing, with this decision,” assured Mr. Dione, promising to deploy “across the national territory 1,106 volunteers from the social and solidarity economy”.

The minister announced this measure by receiving in audience, at the Ousmane-Tanor-Dieng ministerial sphere in Diamniadio, members of the office of the Professional Association of Decentralized Financial Systems of Senegal.

According to Mr. Dione, future volunteers will be distributed among the 553 municipalities of the country at the rate of two for each of them.

Parity between men and women will be a selection criterion for volunteers, he assured, adding that they will have at least the level of the final year class.

This measure will facilitate the monitoring of financing granted by microfinance institutions and the assistance of beneficiaries, according to the Minister of Microfinance and the Social and Solidarity Economy.

“A lot of things haven’t been streamlined. We will move towards the rationalization of expenses and interventions,” promised Mr. Dione, recalling having announced measures in this direction upon his entry into government.
