In Pontoise (Val-d’Oise), it will no longer be called the commercial court but the economic affairs court.

The idea germinated when justice reform presented by the Minister of Justice for the period 2023/2027. Through new provisions, nine to twelve commercial courts will be chosen to experiment, for a period of four years, with expanded jurisdiction in business law to become economic affairs courts (Tae).

An organization that would extend amicable and collective procedures undertaken by economic actors, whatever their status and field of activity, except lawyers and ministerial officers. Thus, the Tae would also address to associations and real estate companiesin order to simplify the processing of disputes, often linked to companies and commercial activities.

From now on, the agricultural sector will be integrated into the Tae and will have assessors

Émilie Chandler, Member of Parliament (Renaissance) for Val-d’Oise

The agricultural world too

Nominated by the MP (Renaissance) Émilie Chandler, the commercial court of Pontoise could thus change name and become an economic affairs court. “To carry out such an experiment, it is useful to have a jurisdiction on the scale of the Val-d’Oise department, which has strong economic activity,” defends the parliamentarian. The presence ofan important rural area, in Vexin and the Plaine de France, allowed the elected official to argue in order to bring the agricultural world into the new economic jurisdiction of Val-d’Oise. “From now on, the agricultural sector will be integrated into the Tae and will have assessors,” underlines the elected official.

Land of experimentation

“With its industrial urban side and its rural side, Val-d’Oise is a land of experimentation for an economic affairs court,” maintains Émilie Chandler, who proposed the project to the president of the commercial court.

Beyond that, the State’s approach is also to allow better access to the law. “The aim of the reform is not to ensure that a jurisdiction functions better, but above all that citizens can better assert their rights, through simplified procedures,” thinks the member for Val-d’Oise.
