The fourth edition of the student and apprentice fair ends this Friday at the Koungou market gardener primary school. For one of its organizers, the director of the Mayotte students and youth association, success has been achieved with already nearly 1,400 visitors.

The student and apprentice fair concludes its itinerary this Friday, October 18 at the Koungou market gardener primary school, after passing through Mamoudzou, Pamandzi, Bandrélé and Tsingoni this week. “We have 1,382 young people who visited the show, by this afternoon, we will have far exceeded our predictions“, estimates Saïd Mohamadi, the director of the Mayotte students and youth association, one of the organizers of this show.

For this fourth edition, 65 structures were represented. “This year we have chosen to also invite entrepreneurs to present their work“, he adds. “We also have public administrations which are there to explain to these young people that the public sector is also recruiting.“If he assures that”almost all sectors are successful“, some have been able to attract more visitors, such as the tourism and security professions.

We are in a territory where everything needs to be built, many sectors are lacking professionals“, continues the director. “Yesterday, we had a coffee debate on transport and mobility. Colleagues explained that in mainland , we had a deficit of 10,000 bus drivers, whereas in a few years we will have the deployment of interurban transport here.

He recognizes it: with the insecurity, Mayotte is not necessarily an attractive destination even for the Mahorais. “We have a lot of final year students who decide to go on mobility just to leave and not to follow a well-defined professional project.“, explains Saïd Mohamadi. “In recent years, we have realized that we have more and more young people who choose to stay in the territory, but due to a lack of places in higher education in Mayotte, they end up leaving.

This is the point of this show, according to him: to make people aware of other possible training courses in the area. Following the event, young people can be called back by the association’s integration service.to refine their professional project.” Last year, out of 1,300 visitors, 243 were supported. More than half were directed towards employment or training.
