In the space of two hours, firefighters had to intervene more than forty times. However, the damage, which remained material, was minor.

A city as if covered in a white veil. Monday May 20 at the end of the afternoon, the city of Dijon and a good part of the Côte-d’Or department were the scene of a violent hail storm which caused numerous floods in the streets of the Burgundian town.

In numerous images provided to BFMTV by witnesses present on site, it is possible to see the violence of the downpours, but also significant torrents of water in the streets of Dijon and traffic was partially paralyzed.

The episode only lasted around fifteen minutes and other municipalities in the area such as Ruffey-lès-Echirey and Longvic were also affected by the phenomenon.

No injuries

As France Bleu indicates, this episode did not cause any injuries, but required numerous interventions by firefighters. According to local media, between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., SDIS 21 actually received 147 calls for 42 trips to the field. In addition, some minor material damage was noted in certain businesses in Dijon.

According to The Public Goodmore than 22 mm of rain would have fallen in the space of 30 minutes.

These hailstorms must now concern departments located a little further north of the Côte-d’Or, meteorologist Patrick Marlière told BFMTV.

“The hail storms are moving up the Meuse and will affect the Ardennes in the coming hours. There is a line of storms coming up from the Rhône valley and which will affect the Jura and the Vosges then reach Alsace and Meurthe and Meurthe-et-Moselle, between 30 and 50 mm are expected,” he concludes.
