“The cohabitation between the bear and our human activities, whether pastoral, tourist or economic, has become a Source of growing tensions and concerns in Ariège (and more particularly in Couserans). Measures must be taken to guarantee the security and serenity of our fellow citizens, as well as the sustainability of our economic activities. It is urgent and necessary to obtain a firm reaction from the State. It is imperative that our voices are heard and that concrete solutions are implemented to address this issue.

The recent trip, last March, of an Ariège delegation to Trentino (Val di Sole), in Italy, made it possible to learn valuable lessons on the modalities of cohabitation with the bear in other European regions. The measures taken by the Province of Trentino to allow the killing of 8 bears per year which would prove dangerous, offer an example of management between preservation of the species and protection of populations.

Christine Téqui, President of the Department as well as the members of PAM 09 invite the population to meet them during 2 territorial meetings. This will involve making a complete restitution of the trip to Trentino.

These 2 meetings will be held in the presence of the delegation which has gone on a study trip to Trentino: Friday May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Trein d’Ustou, Barbieri room and THE Friday June 7 in Auzat at 6:30 p.m.

The operation to reintroduction of Slovenian bears into our central Pyrenees is a Franco-French design both in its decision, its modalities and its constraints.

Our national legislative and regulatory power must stop hiding behind so-called European rules while it strives to toughen their principles! It is high time for the French state to reconsider its position. This situation is the result solely of his political laziness and indolence.

Let us redouble our efforts to defend the interests of Ariège, and to build a future for our department.”
