POPENGUINE, MGR ANDRE GUEYE CALLS FOR THE PROMOTION OF JUSTICE AND PEACE IN SENEGAL

The 136th edition of the Marian Pilgrimage of Popenguine was marked by a solemn mass presided over by Monsignor André Gueye, Bishop of Thiès. This event, coinciding with the celebration of Pentecost, brought together thousands of faithful around the central theme: “With Mary our mother, let us march for a Senegal of justice and peace. »

In his homily, Monsignor André Gueye stressed the importance of justice and peace, describing them as inseparable and essential for the harmonious development of Senegalese society. He urged the faithful to cultivate these values through a change in behavior and mentality.

The Bishop of Thiès insisted on the importance of educating young people for the culture of peace. “By educating our hearts, by educating our children, especially the young, it is so that they become men for the culture of peace. And for the culture of this peace, it is necessary to respect the word given, to have a good intention and a good presumption towards others,” he declared.

For him, justice and peace must be embodied in the attitudes, behaviors, and ways of acting of each individual.

Monsignor Gueye also spoke of the importance of love and truth as the foundations for building a just and peaceful society. “When love and truth meet, justice and peace embrace,” he said.

He stressed that justice should not breed violence, but rather be a pillar for peace.

In his speech, the bishop insisted on the need for a radical change in behavior and mentalities, which he called “conversion”. “Justice and peace are not slogans or purely theoretical or abstract principles, unrealizable ideals. On the contrary, it is our attitudes, our behavior, our ways of doing, speaking, seeing and being which must embody them,” he clarified.

Monsignor Gueye urged the faithful to leave with concrete and realistic resolutions to promote peace and justice in their daily practices and responsibilities. He stressed that all citizens, not just those charged with justice, are affected by this effort.

The religious guide also addressed current issues, including youth behavior and the need for good governance.
