“This day of action is part of World Environment Day on June 5. The principle is simple: this day costs nothing except a little willpower and organization,” introduces Laurent Bernardi, science teacher, coordinator of “Zero Day” and sustainable development education referent. The principle: all members of the educational community must come as close as possible to a day of zero CO2 emissions, zero energy expenditure, zero waste. “The aim is to show everyone how difficult this is because we are dependent on excessive energy consumption due to our lifestyle. » Thus, students, teachers, agents and administrative staff will have to go to the college on foot or by bike or sleep the day before and in the evening with their classmates or work colleagues residing near the college.

Teachers and parents, volunteers and volunteers, will organize group trips for cyclists from the usual bus stops.

No electricity

In terms of zero energy expenditure, cell phones will be banned throughout the day, as well as computers and the internet, video projectors and lighting. In short: no use of electricity. The third and final point will be the absence of waste, therefore no canteen but a cold meal, limiting meat, without non-reusable packaging. No paper will be thrown into classrooms.

To best organize this atypical day, the schedules will be adapted: “In order to give everyone time to get to the college with slower mobility, the course day will start at 9 a.m.,” indicates Laurent Bernardi. During the day, the college’s eco-delegates will discuss the subject. “From a diagnosis of the situation, they will measure the extent of the constraints and find solutions to overcome them, by demonstrating organization, efficiency in terms of communication, strength of persuasion to associate with the project the entire college community. They will measure the level of involvement of each person in this day. »
