A twelfth municipality is committed to the Picardy language! Aigneville, Ingville en Picard, some 900 inhabitants just next to Feuquières-en-Vimeu, signs this Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m., François David room, its charter “My Commune loves Picard”. This commitment is proposed by the Picardy Regional Language Agency. With this charter, in the next three years, this village of Vimeu is committed to putting Picard in the spotlight.

Bilingual street signs, ceremonies started in Picard

And this commitment will be visible upon entering and leaving Aigneville, the name of the village will be written in French and in Picard: Ingville; street signs will also be bilingual: “This is good, because our panels were starting to be a little outdateds, underlines Marine Ploch, municipal councilor of Aigneville who led the project. We also agree to begin our ceremonies, like weddings, with a short speech in Picard: Mr. Mayor will need a little training, but I believe in him!” smiled the chosen one. Other proposals accepted: the translation of school canteen menus or even organizing bilingual tourist walks. This Vimeu village will also offer a page on its website and greeting cards in Picard.

Create a link between all generations in Aigneville

Thanks to this charter, Aigneville hopes to strengthen the links between the old and the new generation : “This will create an intergenerational bond, continues Marine Ploch. The elders are certainly more attached to the Picardy culture and language than the younger ones: here, the older people are very happy to see that we are committing to this Charter. The idea is to strengthen living together, to discover our village and our region together.n”. This Tuesday afternoon, during the ceremony, the village schoolchildren will also be in the spotlight. With their teachers, they will sing in Picard, nursery rhymes learned during the year, such as “A Graincourt, y ‘o troés files”, “Dodo Ninette” or even “Chés tchots cabotans d’ichi”.

11 other municipalities are signatories, including 8 in the Somme: Eaucourt-sur-Somme; Boismont; Epehy; Briquemesnil-Flixecourt; Vraignes-en-Vermandois; Ailly-sur-Noye; Licourt; Le Ronssoy. There are also three municipalities outside Picardy: Roost-Warendin in the North; Magnicourt-en-Comté and Maroeuil in Pas-de-Calais.
