Mantes-la-Jolie: a night of tension at Val-Fourré

The night was turbulent in the Val-Fourré district of Mantes-la-Jolie (Yvelines) where several clashes took place between young people and the police. Tension rose in the early evening, around 9 p.m., as a police crew tried to control an individual riding a scooter near rue Molière.

The police quickly found themselves surrounded by several dozen young people but managed to disperse them by using their collective weapons such as grenades. In the crowd, an individual – an adult – is arrested. He was immediately taken into custody for death threats against officials.

The return to calm is in reality only temporary. Around one o’clock in the morning, firefighters, accompanied for the occasion by police officers, were dispatched to trash fires reported at Avenue du Général-de-Gaulle (D 113), the main artery of the neighborhood.

They were greeted there by projectile jets and mortar fire. Once again, several dozen people faced them. And once again, the police use their defensive weapons to disperse the group.

In the process, young people from the neighborhood allegedly tried to attack the circus which had set up its big top last week near the rowing pool. Fortunately without success. “The circus still has five lions and four tigers,” reports a Source.

The day before, the department’s police officers had also arrested a 23-year-old individual in Triel-sur-Seine in possession of around twenty fireworks mortars.
