On the Italian circuit of Imola – scene of the accident which cost the life of Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna 30 years ago – Max Verstappen scored the 39th pole of his career in the elite.

The Red Bull driver therefore continues his flawless performance with a 7th pole in 7 Grands Prix, thus equaling Alain Prost’s record established in 1993. Despite having difficulty during the three free practice sessions, “Mad Max” has completely dominated the qualifications.

The three-time reigning world champion will start on Sunday alongside Lando Norris (McLaren) who benefits from the penalty inflicted on his teammate Oscar Piastri for hindering Kévin Magnussen in Q1 who moves from 2nd to 5th place. Winner of his first F1 GP in early May in Miami, the Briton especially relished the fact “to be in front of the Ferraris” of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who will start from 3rd and 4th places respectively.

The French from the Alpine team Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly failed to take their ticket for the last qualifying session (Q3). They will start 12th and 15th respectively.
