The National Rally puts pressure on the government. While the budget for the year 2025 is examined from this Wednesday, October 16, 2024 by the Finance Committee of the National Assembly, the far-right party is advancing its pawns. In an interview given to Figaro MP Jean-Philippe Tanguy is critical of Michel Barnier’s project.

“We are the main opposition party, we will not vote for this budget”says the MP. He points to a text which “ will paralyze investment and consumption”.

Asked about the possible vote on a motion of censure, Jean-Philippe Tanguy does not rule it out. “The answer lies first with the government. Will he change his budget to respect two imperatives: the recovery of public accounts and social justice? At the moment, it’s the opposite! Without fundamental change, the question of censorship will arise”he says. He indicates that the decision “will be taken by Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella”.

The RN presents its counter-budget

Unlike the left which has already voted for a first motion of censure, the National Rally has so far been more conciliatory with Michel Barnier, saying it wants to wait to judge while setting certain “red lines”. But if Marine Le Pen’s party finally supports censorship, it would most certainly be fatal to the government.

On the budget, the National Rally must present a counter-project this Wednesday with “15 billion in net new savings”. It includes in particular the end of the bicycle plan, the elimination of cultural subsidies and even the reduction in spending on immigration. In return, the RN proposes a reduction in VAT on energy.
