The density of businesses in Morocco has recorded considerable growth in recent years, according to Amal Idrissi, executive director of the Moroccan Observatory of Very Small, Small and Medium Enterprises (OMTPME). She explained during a round table in Rabat that this dynamism is the result of a high rate of entry and business creation, coupled with an exceptionally low exit rate of 1.2%.

However, the de facto exit rate, which includes inactive, undissolved companies, remains high at 7.3%. This suggests difficulties in liquidation and bankruptcy procedures in Morocco, pushing entrepreneurs to leave their businesses dormant instead of formally closing them.

The joint report from the World Bank and OMTPME also highlights that Morocco faces a low growth rate of high-potential companies, thus hampering job creation. The document calls for the implementation of productivity-enhancing policies to boost economic growth and encourage the creation of new large businesses.
