Would the piranha raise its head above the water? At the very least, it catches its breath and moves again, thanks to the good care of a trio of Portais, anxious not to see the emblematic meeting of the summer disappear from the commune of Confluent.

With the principle of reality in mind, Matthieu Kherif, 35 years old, already involved in the organization of previous festivals as well as brothers Pierre and Xavier Brunet, 24 and 27 years old, opted for a festive alternative to the Garonna Show after the break constraint of the demonstration born in 1999, due to lack of subsidies and volunteers. “We didn’t imagine seeing it completely disappear, but given the time available, we couldn’t offer something equivalent,” explains the latter.

And here is a new formula, renamed Le Petit Garonna, available over two days, the weekend of July 5 and 6 between the street performances and the concerts in the Saint-Clair hall. “30 to 40 musicians will play each evening for this smaller, more friendly event, with a reduced rate. We want to find the people of the village,” continues Xavier Brunet. Already announced on the bill, So Unity, Ensemble national reggae, Ben et Mylène, Fanflures, Astiaous, Rockfellés, Captain’Flem’, Lori Bess trio, DJ Blackbird H, Les Deux make the pair. Other names could complete the lineup.

Symbol

“Having been one of the founders behind the launch of the Garonna Show, I am very satisfied to see this event see the light of day,” rejoices Mayor Jacky Larroy. “I always believed that someone would decide to start again… In the department, the region, the city of Port-Sainte-Marie is known thanks to this festival. And when a demonstration stops, it’s difficult to resume. Especially since it has attracted the loyalty of spectators for many years. I call on the public to come, to encourage them. » The town hall has not stopped its momentum, specifies the first councilor, granting the same financial, technical and material means, winking at the communities, Department in the lead, so that they make the same effort in the years future.

“The objective is to return next year to a larger festival. We are still in contact with the leaders of the Garonna Show, and this year will serve as a test. We relied on the experience of Matthieu, and his group Captain’Flem’ and around the Les Vagabons association, we set up this project in a very short time”, continues Xavier Brunet, acknowledging having “been well helped by the town hall.

Associative and private support

The trio at the helm of Petit Garonna can count on a group of small hands, through their involvement in the local basketball club. “We created a bond, and this made it possible to recruit people for the organization, particularly for the catering part.” To complete the budget, in addition to the municipal subsidy, Xavier Brunet and his acolytes were able to count on private partners, mainly local companies. The baby pirahna intends to cut its teeth before allowing itself to dream bigger.
