Valais now has a center entirely dedicated to bees. Indeed, the Beekeeping Skills Center (CCA) was inaugurated on Saturday in the town of Val de Bagnes (VS), on the Grand-Saint-Bernard axis.

“At the beginning, the Entremont Apiculture Society (SAE), which brings together nearly 130 beekeepers, wanted to have an extraction center for honey. She finally saw bigger and today provides the region with a center dedicated to training, research, raising awareness among the general public and schoolchildren, beekeeping activities as well as agritourism,” indicated Saturday the canton in a press release.

The CCA intends to directly support Valais beekeeping and contribute to its sustainability, in particular by producing “nuclei”, or these small groups of bees capable of forming a new hive. This is to deal with the regular loss of colonies. It also offers professionals an outdoor demonstration apiary, a classroom and soon a laboratory intended for manipulations requiring very strict hygiene conditions.

The center also intends to raise awareness among the general public by organizing conferences, exhibitions and welcoming schools. It will also offer consumers various beehive products, such as honey or pollen, and also houses an apitherapy space.

Note that the CCA cost 2.2 million francs, a quarter of which was covered by public funds. He was also able to count on the support of several organizations. But 200,000 francs are still missing to complete the purchase of materials and equipment.
