Storm, heavy rain, hail: Limoux shaken by bad weather: “The sky fell on our heads”

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and even hail fell on the Aude on the evening of Friday May 17, particularly affecting the Limoux sector and its operators.

A storm bringing with it heavy rain and hail broke out on the evening of Friday May 17 and continued into the night. If in Narbonnais and Carcassonnais, little damage has been recorded, it is not the same in the Limoux sector. In addition to spills on the road and other silt flows that have created several material damages, serious repercussions on the growers’ vines are to be deplored.

President of the Aude Chamber of Agriculture, Philippe Vergnes was at Prom’Aude in Lézignan-Corbières this Saturday, May 18. He said this about the bad weather: “The sky fell on our heads. The stormy impacts and episodes of hail were violent. Damage can be seen at the gates of Limoux, as well as in Pomas, Pieusse, Cépie… The entire Val de Dagne from Fajac to ‘at the gates of Camplong d’Aude with sometimes towns entirely victims of hail.’ At the start of the week, technicians and elected officials from the chamber will be present on the ground to comfort the operators who greatly need it.”

Contacted, the prefecture indicates “deal with the situation”. The material damage is currently being managed and assessed.
