Canadian flag burned: what is the Samidoun organization?

Canada, along with the United States and Germany, places the Samidoun organization on the list of terrorist entities, a week after self-proclaimed members burned a Canadian flag during a demonstration in honor of the attacks of October 7.

“Samidoun maintains close ties with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a group listed as a terrorist entity in Canada, the United States and the European Union, and defends its interests,” explains the Ministry of Public Security in a press release.

The Samidoun organization is present in most Western countries and individuals who claim to belong to it take part in demonstrations against the war waged by Israel, and even against the existence of Israel.

On his website, Samidoun holds public rallies in support of the October 7 attacks on Israel, which led to the Jewish state’s current offensive.

Little known to the general public here, the organization was revealed to the public after Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre asked the government to make it a terrorist entity last week.

Demonstration in Vancouver

His public release followed a demonstration that took place in Vancouver in honor of the Hamas attack on October 7. Images widely shared on social media show protesters burning a Canadian flag and chanting “death to Canada.”

From now on, people claiming to be Samidoun will be under close surveillance and will no longer have the right to carry out certain actions, in particular those linked to the “financing, travel and recruitment of terrorists”.

“A person also commits an offense if he directly or indirectly supplies goods knowing that they will be used by a terrorist group or that a terrorist group will benefit from them,” it explains.

This decision “makes clear that Canada will not tolerate this type of activity and will use all means at its disposal to combat the ongoing threat to Canada’s national security and all those within it.” “, declared Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, in a press release.
