SENEGAL – SOCIETY / Saint-Louis: the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project presented – Senegalese Press Agency

Saint-Louis, Oct 15 (APS) – A meeting of the Regional Development Committee (CRD) to share activities of the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project (PRDC/VFS) was held on Tuesday in Saint-Louis (north), in the presence of the governor of the region, Al Hassan Sall.

“We have just followed with attention but above all with interest the presentation of the Regional Resilience and Community Development Project of the Senegal River Valley (PRDC-VFS),” declared the governor of the Saint-Louis region, Al Hassan Sall on the sidelines of this meeting.

It is a highly structuring project, he continued, that brings economic development but also peace.

The PRDC/VFS will allow the creation of development infrastructures and communities to be more resilient to climate change, to the harmful effects of these climate changes but above all to prepare to protect themselves from said effects, underlined the administrative authority .

It also brings peace in the sense that it is an integrating regional project and which makes it possible to strengthen the links on the one hand between the Senegalese communities and on the other hand between the Senegalese and Mauritanian communities, welcomed Mr. Sall.

The governor noted that the State of Senegal is supported by the World Bank in the implementation of this project.

The PRDC/VFS coordinator, Mamadou Diédhiou, for his part, discussed the context of the implementation of the said project.

“There is a context which led to this project being created especially in the Senegal River valley. It is an area which is faced with challenges firstly linked to climate change with its consequences but also it is an area which has opportunities linked to their agricultural but also pastoral potential,” he said. know.

On the occasion of this CRD, all the activities of this project with its different components, notably integrated territorial development, the inclusion of communities for social cohesion, were presented in detail.

The project provides, among other things, for the establishment of a Regional Consultation Committee (CRC), a Regional Monitoring Committee headed by the governor of the Saint-Louis region but also the organization of a forum on youth employment.
