Dakar, May 18 (APS) – The posture of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, against the backdrop of his latest public outing on political and societal issues, the status of the opposition leader and the political future of Amadou Ba and the appointment of senior defense officials in different ministerial departments is of particular interest to the newspapers in their delivery this Saturday.

“Sonko, party leader, Prime Minister and opponent”, headlines Walfquotiden for example, speaking of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, leader of PASTEF.

“With his party leader hat, Ousmane Sonko talks about issues that are normally discussed between foreign ministers or between heads of state within four walls. Two months after the conquest of power, Sonko still wears his opponent’s hat,” the newspaper concludes.

Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko co-hosted, on Wednesday, at Cheikh Anta Diop University, a public conference with his host from France Insoumise (LFI), Jean Luc Mélenchon on the future of Europe-Africa relations. During this meeting, the two political leaders notably addressed the question of the presence of French soldiers [en Afrique]polygamy, homosexuality and emigration.

At the same time, the newspaper LeQuotidien announced behind the scenes of the preparation of the Prime Minister’s General Policy Declaration, noting that “Sonko is pressing the members of the government”.

The same newspaper speaks of a circular addressed to members of the government in which the Prime Minister asks them to send him, “before May 24, their contributions for the General Policy Declaration”.

“The highly anticipated speech by Amadou Ba, normally scheduled for this weekend, could constitute, according to several sources, the first act of his desire for emancipation from his current political party, the APR,” says the newspaper.

The daily Les Echos preferred to give the floor to a political analyst who invites “the former Prime Minister to draw inspiration from Macky Sall who had the courage to leave Wade”.

“Diomaye opts for retired officers,” notes LeQuotidien, commenting on the appointment of senior defense officials in the various ministerial departments for a period of three years, renewable once.

“The main mission of these senior defense officials at the rank of technical advisor will be to strengthen security,” indicates the daily.

Le Soleil discusses the latest visit of the President of the Republic Bassirou Diomaye Faye to Nigeria and Ghana during which he called for working towards “the consolidation of achievements in terms of integration”.

On another subject, the newspaper Le Soleil announces a drop of 22% in the price of fertilizers and 19% for the tomato sector, citing the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock

Mabouba Diagne also indicated that some 35 thousand tonnes of fertilizer will be offered free of charge to producers, reports the same publication.
