The death of Christopher Shawn Jean Vilsaint brought to 10 the number of rappers killed in the province over the past three years, often associated with the praise of guns, the exploitation of women and the desire to be full of aces.

“It’s distressing, but it’s not surprising,” reacts André Gélinas, former investigator at the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), who is keen not to put all rappers “in the same basket” .

In the opinion of the police officer, these numerous deaths are a reminder that the main places of gang confrontation are the penitentiary and the virtual world, whether via social networks or the style of music gangsta rap. And violence obviously has a tendency to also take place in the middle of the street.

“In this environment, those who are well regarded, the strongest, are those who demonstrate more violence, demonstrations of force,” underlines Mr. Gélinas. It’s a crescendo.”
