Frédéric Despaux, Enedis agent, lost his life on Saturday November 4, 2023 while intervening in Pont-Aven (Finistère), following the passage of storm “Ciaran”. The city paid tribute to him this Friday, May 17, 2024 by dedicating a street in his name, a few days before his birthday, and in the presence of his wife, his three children, his family and friends.

It was with great emotion that Lydie Despaux, his wife, unveiled the plaque for Le Cours Fred Despaux. “He sacrificed his life for the Bretons,” confides Lydie Despaux, who wanted to thank her children’s bosses for allowing them to be present today in Pont-Aven. “It was important, even if it’s hard because this is where he lost his life.” Deeply touched by the speeches of the Pont-Aven schoolchildren, she recalled how their letters, sent a few weeks after the death of her husband, had “moved and helped” her in these difficult times.

In the large public – more than a hundred people were present – ten of Frédéric Despaux’s colleagues came specially from Auch (Gers). “It could have happened to us. When we intervene in Fire, it is necessarily in degraded conditions,” they recall. Frédéric Despaux was in fact part of the Enedis Rapid Electricity Intervention Force (FIRE). “Seeing this tribute moves us a lot,” they say together. “We were all very shocked by the loss of Fred Despaux. No employee should lose their life while working,” recalled Nicolas Marchand, HR Director of Enedis, who came specially to pay tribute to the 46-year-old agent.

A tragic loss which raises the question of the mobilization of these men and women for the comfort of the population: “We are grateful for these men and women who bring back the comfort of electricity. A comfort so habitual that we forget that behind it there are men and women. We will have to draw all the consequences from this tragedy,” recalled Erwan Balanant, MP for the constituency.
