The European Night of Museums arrives in Aveyron on May 18, 2024.

The Department presented the program for the 20th edition of the European Night of Museums. A free night to (re)discover Aveyron art and culture expected this Saturday, May 18, from 2 p.m. to midnight. “This year is totally different from previous years. Brand new themes are being addressed on the three sites of the Department’s museums: Salles-la-Source, Montrozier and Espalion,” explains Christine Presne, vice-president in charge of culture. to the departmental council of Aveyron.

Salles-la-Source promotes leather

Already present in the collections of the city’s museum of traditional arts and crafts, leather is in the spotlight during this 2024 edition. Visitors will be able to observe craft demonstrations, discover professions such as bookbinder or saddler-saddler but also participate in workshops on leather working (from 6 years old). From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., a giant Japanese drum show performed by the Taïkokanou musical company. Throughout the night, it will be possible to “discover the museum while having fun” with a games trail for young and old.

A virtual exhibition in Montrozier

Lovers of travel and adventure can be immersed in prehistory thanks to stories told, at 3 p.m., 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the departmental archeology area of ​​Montrozier.” There are activities for all audiences, children , teenagers and adults”, explains Christine Presne. Indeed, it will be possible for participants of all ages to become real investigators during a family escape game. A big new feature this year: the creation of a virtual exhibition accessible on smartphones and tablets, a way of adapting to new technologies and not losing public interest.

Espalion at story time

On May 17 and 18, at the Museum of Morals and Customs, visitors will cross borders with musical tales, to travel to Africa but also a bilingual tale in French and Occitan by Jean Boudou. The youth of Espalion will participate in these discoveries by exhibiting their creations. Between à la carte games and guided tours, the most curious will discover the culture of the region in a fun way.
