Wallonia takes a further step towards recognition of renewable gas

At the end of April, the regional parliament had already given the green light to a draft decree relating to the organization of the regional gas market in order to introduce the legal bases necessary for this recognition through the system of ‘guarantees of origin ‘ emitted, where applicable, for gas injected into the network and then consumed via it.

Concretely, the gas decree now includes new definitions and extends the scope of application of guarantees of origin to low-carbon gas.

The decree approved this Thursday aims to continue the work initiated at the decree level by providing in particular, within the regulatory framework, the modalities allowing the end customer to have the renewable or low carbon nature of a quantity of gas consumed recognized.

“Thanks to this recognition, the sector will be able to promote renewable gas produced in Wallonia. Likewise, Walloon economic operators purchasing renewable gas will be able to benefit from a certain number of financial advantages,” underlined the Walloon Minister of Energy. , Philippe Henry.
