The Olympic flame moves closer to Moselle and Luxembourg

The route of the torch in Moselle has just been clarified and its 7 stages specified. A passage through Schengen and Apach is part of the journey before joining Yutz, Thionville and Metz in particular.

Since she landed in Marseille on May 8, the Olympic flame and Paralympic never stops visiting France. From famous to anonymous torchbearers, the torch must reach the sites of Paris 2024 on July 14, French national holiday. But before the Olympic rings cross the tricolor flag, there is still a long way to go. And each stage is a dream: Lascaux Cave (May 22), D-Day beaches (May 30), Mont-Saint-Michel (May 31), Palais des Festivals in Cannes (June 18), Grand-Place in Lille (2 July)…

And in the middle of all this journey, the Moselle is also waiting to ignite for the Games. With the June 27 as D-Day. But the president of the Department, Patrick Weiten, has just detailed the route taken that Thursday by the 109 carriers mobilized for the occasion. It is thus confirmed that the “triple point” France-Luxembourg-Germany” between Apach, Schengen and Perl will be part of the 7 Moselle stages. With a visit from Grand Duke Henri as a bonus!

Because, contrary to what one might believe, the Olympic torch (derived from Lorraine steelmaking know-how) will not travel continuously across the territory. In Moselle, the visible part of its route will be carried out on short stretches from 1.2 to 6.4 km long where each torchbearer must complete their 200 meter run approximately.

The first appearance of the Olympic fire in the department is planned on the side of Meisenthal (from 7:55 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. sharp). The day will continue with the arrival of the convoy at Sarreguemines (9:45 a.m. to 10:24 a.m.), Forbach (11:05 a.m. to 1:50 p.m.), cross-border triple point (1:10 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.), the sector Yutz-Thionville (3:03 p.m. to 4:44 p.m.). Before the final arrival at Metz (5:37 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.), the porters will make an oh-so-symbolic stop at Scy-Chazelles to honor the memory of the Father of Europe, Robert Schuman.

Safety First

The prefect of Moselle, Laurent Touvet, has already announced that the day the flame passedno protest demonstration will not be accepted. It is true that the securing the route already mobilizes a number of law enforcement agencies. Thus, the state representative compares the organization around this event “ comparable to a stage of the Tour de France.”

In total, the operation should mobilize 200 police officers And 320 police. Staff to which will be added Civil Protection volunteers, firefighters and local volunteers. More than 700 people overall…

Laurent Touvet also specified that a coordinated exercise between French, Luxembourg and German services would soon be organized above the Apache-Perl-Schengen border point.
