Tour de France in Évaux-les-Bains: the Creusois will be able to “show the best of themselves” says Christian Prudhomme

56 days before the start of the Tour de France from Évaux-les-Bains, France Bleu Creuse was this Thursday live from the city which will host the start of the 11th stage of the Grande Boucle. And the distinguished guest of this morning was the director of the Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme. He returned in particular to the process of awarding this stage, after too long a waitwith the trip to Paris ofa Creuse delegation in November 2021all political sides combined. “What struck me the most was when I was told that it had been 12 years since the Tour even passed through Creuse. And just as much, I am perfectly aware of the departure cities and towns. arrived, there are around thirty departments crossed every year for 20 years But I was unable to say that there was that much time and then I said to myself ‘it’s not possible’.

Before Évaux-les-Bains, just one step in 111 years, 20 years ago in Guéret. There were also 11 passages over this same period of time. It’s not a lot. “I agree with that, admitted Christian Prudhomme. It’s an opportunity for the people of Creuse to show the best of themselves, of their department, of their commune.”. And for 2025, Dun-le-Palestel would have a chance? “You shouldn’t be too greedy though” replied the Tour boss.

La Creuse, “be proud of what you are”

At the microphone of France Bleu Creuse, Christian Prudhomme especially wanted to come back to a preconceived idea which, according to him, is not understandable. “Be proud of what you are, don’t tell yourself that we are very small, that we have roads where the Tour de France cannot pass. There are no real rules on the roads”. For him, the sporting aspect is importantbut there is also the beauty of the landscapes which are filmed from the helicopters, the historical aspect too.

To also explain this very long wait, the boss of the Tour mentioned these 300 city applications per year, 250 in France, 50 abroad. According to him, the first criterion remains the athlete, “we are looking to have convincing grounds”. This stage between Creuse and Cantal will be 211 kilometers, the last 50 kilometers “will be terrible” according to Christian Prudhomme. He evokes the profile of the stage, very particular, linked to the topography of the Creuse, “It turns right, it turns left, it goes up, it goes down. You have 20 seconds ahead, we don’t see you for three hours. That means that it will be a very difficult stage for teams to control, it will be a really important step.”.
