the fire probably of criminal origin (photos and video)

This Wednesday shortly after 5 p.m., a violent fire broke out for a still unexplained reason in the Queue-du-Bois municipal school, rue Émile Vandervelde, 122. The firefighters went immediately to the scene with three pumpers and two cisterns.

Given the scale of the disaster, the emergency plan was triggered. “A security perimeter has been established,” said Mayor Didier Henrottin.

There were no injuries and traffic was obviously prohibited in the street while the emergency services intervened. A diversion was put in place by the police.

A diversion which should remain in place for a large part of the evening at least. Despite the significant resources deployed, firefighters were having difficulty putting out the flames. Around 7 p.m., the roof of the building had been completely destroyed and collapsed inside the building. It was only around 9:45 p.m. that the emergency plan could be lifted.

Fortunately, this school was now disused. It was currently used as a warehouse for furniture belonging to the municipality pending… its demolition. As part of the project to revitalize the heart of the village, it had to be razed, just like the neighboring home. The land, once remediated, will then be the subject of a call for projects intended for the private sector aimed at building housing, a mixed-use building, parking and a small sports area.

It remains to be seen whether this fire will have repercussions on this issue. Especially since this Wednesday’s fire could be of criminal origin according to initial findings.
