Nador – The High Commission for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army organized, Wednesday in Nador, a day to commemorate the 112th anniversary of the disappearance of the martyr Cherif Mohamed Ameziane, one of the symbols of the Rif resistance against foreign occupation in defense of the constants of the nation.

Held in the presence of the secretary general of the province of Nador, Abdellah Lahrech, and the director of Systems and Historical Studies at the High Commission, Hamida Maaroufi, as well as provincial officials, elected officials and civil society actors, this day allowed us to evoke the struggle of this activist, symbol of the resistance of the Rif and his distinguished place in national history rich in epics and heroic episodes.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mr. Maaroufi, the High Commissioner for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army, Mustapha El Ktiri, stressed that the High Commission aims, through the commemoration of this anniversary, to make know the standard bearers and pioneers of the resistance and to promote the struggle of the Moroccan people for liberation, independence and territorial integrity, while consolidating the values ​​of positive citizenship and love of the homeland among generations rising.

Mr. El Ktiri recalled the fight of this historic figure of national resistance against the foreign occupier, noting that Cherif Mohamed Ameziane, one of the pioneers of the first Rif resistance in northern Morocco (1909-1912), was an exceptional man who sacrificed everything to defend the national territory and preserve its integrity.

He also praised the courage and sacrifices of the tribes of the Eastern Rif who gathered around Cherif Mohamed Ameziane at the beginning of the 20th century to lead the resistance and repel foreign aggression and the ambitions of the Spanish occupier, highlighting the qualities of this martyr hero, descendant of a Sufi family who established their zaouia in Kelaat Azenghan at the beginning of the 18th century.

This meeting was marked by the tribute paid to nine former resistance fighters and members of the liberation army, in recognition of their sacrifices and their heroic acts.
