This Wednesday, May 15, the Olympic Torch relay route was unveiled by the Department of Moselle. It will consist of seven stages in total, in places with strong symbolism.

It’s a journey throughout the department, and a day of celebration for all the residents, who are getting ready. The Department of Moselle revealed this Wednesday, May 15 during a press conference what the route of the Olympic Flame relay would be in the territory. As a reminder, the passing of the Flame will take place on June 27, 2024. We will explain it to you, step by step.

In Moselle, the flame will be carried by 100 to 110 torchbearers at 7 points in the Department. Note, however, that an “8th point is planned on an exceptional and private basis at the Arcelor site in Maizières-lès-Metz, partner of the Games and manufacturer of the torch (Florange and Woippy factories),” indicates the Department of Moselle.

The first stage of the Flame will pass to Meisenthal, from 7:55 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. Then it will be the turn of Sarreguemines to welcome him. The relay will go from the Moulin de la Blies to the Earthenware Museum, from 8:45 a.m. to 10:24 a.m. A few minutes later, from 11:03 a.m. to 1:39 p.m., it will be the turn of the residents of Forbach to enjoy the Torch Relay. The 4th leg of the Olympic Torch Relay will cross the Bridge of Europe to the convoy. She will in fact leave from 1:10 p.m. to Apache Eiffel Tower to end his journey at Place des Etoiles, at Schengen, at 1:50 p.m. The Department of Moselle specifies that “many personalities from Luxembourg, Saarland and France” will be present.

Then step 5 will start from Yutz to join Thionville, from 3:03 p.m. to 4:44 p.m. As for the next step, located at Scy-Chazelles, it will allow the torchbearers to enter the Robert Schuman House, where “200 people will be invited, particularly from the founding countries of Europe”, warns the Department of Moselle. And to continue: “The high symbolic value of this visit to the Maison Robert Schuman has earned it the recognition as an iconic place on the route by the Grand Est Region. » This stage will take place from 4:04 p.m. to 5:29 p.m.

Finally, the last leg of the relay will also be the longest, from 5:37 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. It will take place at Metzand will connect the Arena, “cauldron of dragonesses but also a preparation center for the Games which will mainly host the Philippine delegation or Brazilian volleyball training”, to the Place de la République.

Two convoys for the Flame in Moselle

After its stop on June 26 at the European Community of Alsace, and before its journey to Haute-Marne on June 28, the flame will be presented by two convoys which will take turns: “a main convoy called “Engagement” which will cover 4 important basins population of the department: Sarreguemines, Forbach, Yutz-Thionville and Metz (Place of the collective relay and Stopover town) and an agile convoy called “Spider” which will cover 3 remarkable sites: Meisenthal and the International Center for Glass Art, the Tripoint Apach -Perl-Schengen and the Bridge of Europe and finally Scy-Chazelles and the House of Robert Schuman”.
