Saint-Denis: two municipal agents attacked with iron bars in a youth center

Two executives from the Directorate for Adolescence and Growing Well in Saint-Denis were victims of a “violent attack” this Wednesday within the Geyter youth space, announces a press release from the municipality published at the end of the day . The victims were beaten “with iron bars by three hooded individuals”.

The City indicates that the temporary incapacity for work (ITT) of the two agents will amount to “several days”, without giving a precise figure. She immediately specifies that the Geyter youth center, located in the square of the same name, is closed “until further notice”.

“The municipality denounces this cowardly attack and provides all its support to the targeted agents as well as to the other members of the team and to the teenagers present at the time of the attack,” the press release continues. Katy Bontinck, first deputy mayor, was with the victims when they filed a complaint at the police station later in the afternoon. The mayor was also able to speak by telephone with the two agents. »

In October 2019, the town hall of Saint-Denis, at the time under a communist majority, had already been forced to close the De Geyter youth space after the discovery of weapons – a rifle and a handgun – and a small quantity of drugs in a false ceiling of municipal equipment. In May 2022, the Gueldres leisure center, located in the immediate vicinity of the De Geyter space, was destroyed by a fire for which the criminal trail was favored.

“The City of Saint-Denis and its representatives would like to reaffirm that they will never give in to any violent action or attempt at intimidation,” concludes the municipal press release.
