Samta will invest $70 million in Morocco to build a metal recycling plant

According to an article published on October 10 by The morningthe Indian group Samta is preparing to launch the construction of its metal recycling plant in the Atlantic free zone in Kénitra. This project, estimated at $70 million and supported by a potential $20 million loan from the EBRD, will focus on the recycling of copper and aluminum scrap for the automotive and aeronautical sectors. The factory is expected to create 200 jobs and strengthen the circular economy in Morocco.

The Samta group is preparing to commission its industrial unit dedicated to the recycling of metals, mainly aluminum and copper. Located on an area of 30,235 square meters in the Atlantic free zone in Kénitra, this factory represents a total investment of 70 million dollars.

Resulting from a partnership agreement signed with the Moroccan Ministry of Industry in September 2022, this project not only injects significant capital into the Moroccan economy, but also creates significant jobs.

Beyond a simple protocol, this agreement resulted in a concrete investment commitment to carry out this initiative on the ground. The factory is expected to produce 15,000 tonnes of recycled metals annually, making it one of the most important facilities of its kind in Morocco.

A positive impact on the circular economy and employment in Morocco

This project fits perfectly into Morocco’s strategy aimed at promoting the circular economy and sustainable development. By recovering metal scrap to produce new materials, the plant will help reduce environmental impact while meeting the growing demand for recycled metals.

In addition, the Samta group’s metal recycling plant is expected to play a major role in creating jobs in the Kenitra region and beyond. The positions created will cover a diverse range of skills, from specialist technical jobs to administrative and logistics functions, boosting the local economy and improving employment prospects for residents.

Morocco, a destination of choice for international investors

The launch of this factory by the Samta group strengthens Morocco’s position as a competitive industrial platform in North Africa. The Kingdom offers foreign investors a stable environment, attractive tax incentives and privileged access to European and African markets through its trade agreements.
