A 14-year-old teenager kills himself during an urbex session in an abandoned factory in Cambrai

The accident occurred this Wednesday morning, while a group of three teenagers were exploring the Intexal factory in Cambrai, which had been disused for twenty years. To our colleagues from France 3, the firefighters explained that one of the three friends, aged 14, fell ten meters from the roof of the factory.

The countless number of industrial wastelands in the North makes this department a particularly popular place for fans of urban exploration of abandoned places, commonly called “urbex”. In addition to the obvious dangers it presents, this sensational activity, very popular in the community of vloggers, photographers and videographers on the Internet, remains completely illegal. Over the past few years, the northern urbexer community has seen many of its own get injured, and some die.

Other accidents in this same factory

In cardiorespiratory arrest when help arrived, the young boy could not be resuscitated. The victim’s two friends were not injured. However, they were taken care of, “in a state of shock”, by the firefighters.

The vast Intexal industrial wasteland is located in the heart of Cambrai. The site has not been active since the early 2000s. Regularly visited by urbex enthusiasts, the wasteland was surrounded, in 2015, by a high fence after several accidents where teenagers were seriously injured.
