During the inauguration of the laser sorting center at the Saint-Jean-de-Côle quartz extraction site, Tuesday May 14, Imerys operations director Philippe d’Agier returned to the two main projects. new careers for the company in Périgord Vert. One would be an extension of this site in the town of Lempzours, the other would be located in Thiviers, at a place called Razac.

Each time, residents expressed fears about noise pollution and environmental issues. In Lempzours, an association, called Sauvegardons Lempzours et la Vallée de la Côle, was even created a year ago to oppose the project.

For the locality, “the file has not yet been submitted, but it will be before the end of 2024”. Thérèse Chassain, mayor of Lempzours, also took part in the visit offered by the company on Tuesday May 14. She indicated that no decision will be made until the file is filed by Imerys. After that, the subject will be debated in the Municipal Council. The councilor declared that she would “follow the position of elected officials” on the project.

More advanced Thiviers

Regarding environmental concerns, the local director of Imerys defends himself: “We have a very strict environmental regulatory framework to respect. We are talking about an environmental authorization which is given by the State through the services of the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Planning and Housing [Dreal]from the Departmental Territorial Directorate [DDT], from the regional mission of the environmental authority. »

Regarding the nuisance, Philippe d’Agier specifies that “around ten trucks will pass every day. Only three local residents, with whom exchanges take place, will be concerned.” The company also claims that “the quarries will not be visible from the different axes, hidden by rows of trees”.

The Thiviers project is more advanced. “The file was deemed admissible. There will be a public inquiry, the date of which will be known soon,” says Philippe d’Agier.
