big storms and hail in Hérault, bad weather moves towards Gard

The communes of the Hérault valley suffered violent storms at the start of the afternoon, storms which also caused hail, to the east and north of Montpellier. The very localized and rapid storm is moving towards Gard and should last all afternoon.

It’s impressive, but not particularly dangerous, it’s violent but localized “, analyzes Guillaume Ferry, behind his meteorologist screens from the specialized company Predict in Montpellier.

The storm formed this morning north of Béziers, before moving towards Clermont-l’Hérault and Gignac where the Hérault valley suffered unexpected hailstones.

The storm then moved a little before 3 p.m. towards Aumelas, Saint-Paul-et-Valmalle, Montarnaud and took the direction of Pic Saint-Loup, bypassing Montpellier despite the cloudy sky. Hail is still to be feared, but the storm does not persist for very long.

It’s a very quick storm, which doesn’t stay in the same place for more than 1/2 hour. It is very localized and moves quickly. There may be further hail until this evening.

Guillaume Ferry, Predic meteorologist.

The Pic Saint-Loup region was expected to be impacted around 4 p.m. The storm will then head towards Gard, passing towards Quissac and the Vidourle valley.

These bad weather should calm down in the early evening.

Risks of runoff from roads are to be feared in certain municipalities.
