Oise: will the Olympic flame pass near you?

After two years of waiting, everything is finally revealed. In July 2022, Nadège Lefebvre, the president (LR) of the Oise departmental council, signed alongside Tony Estanguet, the president of Paris 2024, the convention which formalized the passage of the Olympic flame through the territory.

In June 2023, the date and the towns crossed by the flame were revealed by the community. Finally, this Wednesday morning, the department officially presented the order of stages, the timetables, and above all the “street by street” route of the passage of the flame in the Oise on July 18.

Departing from Compiègne, it will pass through the towns of Venette, Margny-lès-Compiègne, Chiry-Ourscamp, Chantilly, Breteuil, Nogent-sur-Oise, Creil and Gerberoy before ending its Picardy adventure with a stopover in Beauvais. “The Flame procession will close its Relais Oisien in the park of the Hôtel du Département in Beauvais for a ceremonial festivities, including the lighting of the cauldron by the last torchbearer of the day,” the council rejoices departmental.

“Something we won’t see again soon”

Enough to rejoice the inhabitants and elected officials of the municipalities concerned by this Olympic passage. “The passage of the flame is a good symbol which concretizes this commitment. There will be music, the weather will be nice, everyone will be happy, that’s the main thing,” exclaims Philippe Marini, mayor (LR) of Compiègne, who will be the first mayor to welcome the torch.

In Beauvais, Franck Pia evokes a historic moment. “I get great satisfaction from this for Beauvais,” smiles the mayor (UDI). This is something we won’t see again anytime soon. It is also mobilizing for all citizens. By definition sport, like culture, brings people together. »

In large cities, but also rural areas, such as Chiry-Ourscamp, 1,200 inhabitants, best known for its abbey. “The historical heritage of our town will be placed in the spotlight,” salivates the village councillor, Jean-Yves Bonnard.

And even in towns where the flame will not pass, the festivities will be there, like in Pont-Sainte-Maxence. “From June, the city’s associations and services will offer free sporting activities to the population. On June 21, school Olympics will be organized for all CM2 students, with athletics events and a large dictation on the theme A healthy mind in a healthy body. The class that wins the most medals will leave with our Olympic flame! “. This golden cup, designed to resemble the flame, is carried every Monday from one school to another by students.
