Update May 14, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.

This Tuesday, May 14, thunderstorms are expected in the province and these are two sectors that are particularly at risk of experiencing severe weather in the province.

First alerts

While the first severe thunderstorm alert of the season was issued yesterday in Val-d’Or during the evening, unstable conditions continue. The dew point will reach 15 degrees in places and the humidity in the air is real fuel for the formation of thunderstorms. Another alert was issued around 6 p.m. in Mauricie. This storm cell could produce hailstones and heavy rain.

Violent conditions possible

The Saint Lawrence Valley, Montérégie, Estrie, Beauce, Quebec and the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region are likely to hear thunder and see some lightning. Estrie and the surroundings of the city of Saguenay could, for their part, experience severe weather during the afternoon.

These areas currently remain under surveillance, as an alert is possible due to the energy available for the formation of violent thunderstorms.

If you find yourself in one of these locations, stay tuned for warnings in effect for your area.

Risks not to be neglected

Severe thunderstorms can produce powerful gusts, heavy rain and hailstones exceeding two centimeters in diameter. They can even, in some cases, be the precursor to tornadoes.
