Long mentioned, sometimes put aside, the project of developing a new intercommunal tourist office in Carcassonne (Aude) seems to be entering a decisive phase. The work is announced for 2025.

An ideal site

Contacted by -.fr, Muriel Brunetcurrent director of the municipal tourist office, takes stock of this major project.

” There complete rehabilitation of this building has been regularly mentioned recently by the municipality”, confirms the Aude official, specifying that the site is currently ” totally unoccupied “.

This imposing abandoned building would be a “ ideal site » for tourism in Carcassonne. This is confirmed by Muriel Brunet.

“The convent is located on a busy artery in Carcassonne (rue du Pont-Vieux, editor’s note). Its location is right between the city center, the Bastide and the medieval city, so there are particularly many tourists there,” argues the forty-year-old.

A major project

“For the moment, this site is abandoned,” laments the director, estimating that in the medium term, “it could become a fantastic place to live and tourist information right in the heart of our territory.”

The future location would complement other tourism information locations already existing in the Aude Prefecture, including the new Europe Odyssée barge, which recently arrived near the train station.
